TidBits 108: The past 50 years of art told through a sole medium: paper

The Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Milano hosts the exhibition entitled “Year after Year, Opere su carta dalla UBS Art Collection”, curated by Francesco Bonami.

Fifty works on paper by thirty-five internationally renowned artists who have been active on the scene from the 1960s to today. Among the great names featured, Frank Auerbach, Charles Avery, Georg Baselitz, Troy Brauntuch, Chuck Close, John Currin, Lucian Freud, Robert Gober, Jenny Holzer, Martin Kippenberger, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Longo, Sigmar Polke, Ed Ruscha, Jim Shaw, Cy Twombly, Robin Winters.

Noteworthy are Kippenberger’s provocative sketches made on the stationery of a hotel, the women drawn by David Salle and many other works.

Organized in the halls of the piano nobile (noble floor) of Villa Reale, the exhibition is open to the public from March 21st to June 21st 2014.

A journey to illustrate that today, despite the digital era we are living in, paper remains, as stated by curator Francesco Bonami, “a magical place where artistic creativity can find a form of relief from the turbulence of constant communication and perennial connectivity”.

A great event not to be missed!
