TidBits 084: Book Art

There’s something your iPad can’t do and there are summits that an eBook will never be able to reach.

A strong, rather daring statement perhaps, but this is the idea that comes to mind when viewing Mike Stilkey’s works.

Every artist caches the secret of his or her art behind the choice of materials, in the use of particular instruments, inside the originality of the drawings and the use of color. Using books as if they were canvasses... a mix of ink, paints and lacquers… Stilkey depicts melancholy, surreal characters with angular but always beautifully sensual features.

Introspective and mysterious in style, interesting enough to be compared Egon Schiele, one feels a sense of bewilderment in viewing a scenery recreated by books, an unusual “wall”... In seeing with renewed eyes what most people could have done only with a white canvas.
