Paper in three dimensions by Caterina Crepax

Nico Zardo

The “dimensions” of the creativity of Caterina Crepax can be considered from different points of view. The first can be traced back to her origins, her father in this case - Guido, innovative comic strip illustrator and refined storyteller - who transmitted to her he pleasure of working with one’s hands.

The second refers to the material chosen to express herself: paper. A light-weight, friendly material that our artist uses in large corrugated sheets, folded, creased or in small fragments, often recycled, patiently assembled one next to the other, creating unusual and surprising textures.

THE THIRD IS THE FINAL RESULT OF HER WORK

through which paper always assumes three-dimensional aspects: sculpture-apparel that could dress the good fairies of our dreams, princesses waiting to enter a fairytale, precious hiding places, magical, candid white or motley colored objects added to set designs where light favors dreaming and irony suggests play; tapestry or panels that transmit the idea of the natural elements (water, flowers…) that inspired them.

THE WORK OF CATERINA CREPAX

is niched in a very personal space between paper fashion, design and art with works that she renews and evolves for exhibitions, with the collaboration of companies and fashion houses and the teaching through which she transmits to her students – but also to us all – her inexhaustible enthusiasm for paper.
