HighTissue, for research

Perini Journal

One-of-a-kind in the field, HIGHTISSUE is financed by the Regione Toscana regional department (sole official R&D announcement 2012, Line B, Hi-Tech field of Advanced Mechanics).
Straight from the heart of the tissue district, an ambitious program that unites competences, technical expertise and research to create increasingly evolved production technologies.

Well aware to what extent research constitutes one of the most effective competitive levers, Fabio Perini, Milltech and Lucense have seized the opportunity to start up a highly technological project that has positive feedback on the environment. Indeed, if today people investing in R&D do so to gain a strategic and economic advantage, they also do it with the awareness that every technological progress can and must translate also into a mitigation of the impact that industrial and production activities have on the planet’s resources.

HIGHTISSUE’S PRIME OBJECTIVE IS TO IMPROVE COMPETITIVENESS IN TISSUE CONVERTING

through the design and implementation of evolved systems with low energy consumption. As in every R&D project, HIGHTISSUE, too, started off from a careful analysis of the state of the art of the field, i.e., from an in-depth and detailed investigation into the construction techniques of tissue converting lines. This allowed identifying the critical phases of the converting process, those passages where production and energy efficiency can be improved by creating new systems. More in detail, the new systems must guarantee important energy savings; an increase in productivity and a decrease in machine downtime; greater quality and safety of the work; a reduction in noise and electromagnetic pollution.

RESEARCH FOCUSED PARTICULARLY ON OPTIMIZING DUST SUCTION SYSTEMS ON CONVERTING LINES,

enhancing energy efficiency (“Boxing Dust”). Thanks to the study of air flows of the different tissue converting processes, it was possible to design suction hoods featuring substantial installed power reductions and to improve other aspects connected to suction.

Another result of HIGHTISSUE concerns the design of a new log saw that allows incrementing performance by over 50% compared to a traditional machine, together with a reduction in the power necessary for its operation.

The “New Print” printer - another result of this joint research - uses a central drum completely made of carbon fiber that drastically reduces inertia and vibrations, increasing stability and reducing the energy required for its operation. And last but not least, the iMVC system, created by Fabio Perini S.p.A., allows activating a connection between the customer’s system and Perini’s Technical Service; creating a mono-directional video of the customer’s system; managing bi-directional audio for the exchange of opinions and instructions; activating a blackboard highlighting the parts of the machine being investigated. All these operations take place in real time and in secure mode.

AMONG THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF THE HIGHTISSUE PRO-JECT IS THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE REGIONAL MECHANICS COMPARTMENT,

thanks to the involvement of three local protagonists in the realm of mechanics involving paper; product and process innovation; the promotion of applied research in collaboration with Research Institutions, Large Enterprises and Small & Medium-sized Enterprises, as well as the creation of aggregations and the development of professional competences in the field of advanced mechanics. By developing systems that embody new conceptions, HIGHTISSUE will guarantee benefits for all the satellite companies working in and around the Tuscan paper industry.

THE PARTNERS OF THE HIGHTISSUE PROJECT.
